How to Arm and Disarm Your System in the Alarm.com App

Learn how to remotely arm and disarm your security system, choose between Arm Stay and Arm Away, and use optional arming settings from the Alarm.com app.

Before You Begin

You must be signed in to the Alarm.com app with a login that has remote arming permissions. If you don't see arming options on your Security System card, your login may be restricted to view-only access.

Arm Stay versus Arm Away

Arm Away Turns on both door/window sensors and motion sensors, for when no one is home. Do not arm in away if you have pets.

Arm Stay Turns on door/window sensors only, so you can move around inside without triggering the alarm.

If your system has more than one partition, you can arm or disarm each partition separately from the Security System card by swiping to the partition you want to adjust.

Arm Your System

1

Open the Security System Card

Open the Alarm.com app and locate the Security System card on the home screen. It shows a shield icon with the system's current arming state.

2

Choose Stay or Away

Tap the shield icon, then tap Stay to arm the system while you're home, or Away to arm the system when the location will be empty.

3

Review Arming Options, if Available

Depending on how your system is set up, you may see optional arming settings before the system arms:

  • No Entry Delay — skips the walk-in grace period, so the alarm triggers as soon as a door or window opens.
  • Bypass Open Zones — allows the system to arm even if a door, window, or sensor is acting up or currently open, without that sensor being monitored.

Select any options you want, then confirm to arm the system.

Disarm Your System

1

Open the Security System Card

Open the Alarm.com app and tap the shield icon on the Security System card, which shows the current arming state.

2

Tap Disarm

Tap Disarm. The system will switch to a non-alarm state, and the shield icon will update to show it is disarmed.

If Your System Won't Arm or Disarm

If the system won't arm, check whether any doors, windows, or motion sensors are open, since an unbypassed open sensor can prevent arming. Closing the sensor, or selecting Bypass Open Zones while arming, will usually resolve this.

Contact us if the system still won't arm or disarm remotely after checking your sensors, or if arming options you expect to see aren't available in the app.
