Lawrenceville Alarm Ordinance Overview

In September 2021, the Lawrenceville City Council approved an update to Article 2 (False Alarm) of Chapter 26 (Offenses and Miscellaneous Provisions) of the City Code, with an effective date of December 1, 2021. Fines for excessive false alarms began June 1, 2022.

The purpose of the False Alarm Ordinance is to encourage alarm owners and alarm companies to properly use and maintain monitored alarm systems so that Lawrenceville Police resources are not tied up responding to preventable false alarms.

• Alarm users must obtain an alarm permit application within five (5) business days of installation or transfer.
• The completed application must be filed with the City within ten (10) business days.
• Alarm permits are not transferable between owners, tenants, or locations.
• Separate permits are required when multiple structures or tenants are protected at one property.
• There is no charge for the permit itself, but a late fee is assessed after 30 days.

For residential alarm sites, any alarm response within the City of Lawrenceville will result in automatic registration of that alarm address. There is no additional fine for residential false alarms occurring without a valid alarm permit beyond the fees listed above.
